What is the difference between the sweet-chocolate and dark chocolate semi? I know that usually when you bake cookies that you use semisweet chocolate. But it seems that the semi-sweet taste as well as dark chocolate (much less to my unrefined palate). Both a little more bitter than milk chocolate. So what's the difference? I prefer the dark chocolate with milk chocolate. And like the taste of semisweet well. Just do not know what was the difference!
There is really no distinction between the semi-sweet and dark. Both contain more cocoa solids the chocolate milk. They also lack of milk, so they are not chocolate milk. "
Semi-sweet is generally a name given to chocolate chips, and is generally considered as a "lesser".
Dark chocolate is usually used for eating by hand, or used in "fancy" recipes.
However, the FDA has no rules about which name is which. They say that "dark" and "semi-sweet" fall into the same category.
But honestly, I can not tell the difference either. I am also happy with a bag of Nestle semi-sweet chips that I am with a bag of Dove Dark, haha.
Thus, the bottom line is the only distinction is the name.
Hope this helps! :)
If answering my colleagues would think the "official" culinary world can distinguish between "black" and "bittersweet" of chocolate.
However, I spoke to the FDA, which regulates the labeling and marketing of chocolates in the States. "Dark" is a term broader umbrella for chocolates cocoa solids are greater than 43%, which are usually milk chocolates.
"Sweet and sour" and "Bittersweet" are two subcategories of "Dark", "semisweet" containing less cocoa "bitter." So, what the plaintiff would purchase could be described as "dark" or "semi-sweet, and still very much the same thing.
Also, I realize there is a difference in the "official" culinary world between "dark chocolate chips and semisweet Nestle. But, honestly, I can not taste much difference.
And saying: Chocolate milk is the best "to eat" is an opinion, not really a fact. I hate milk chocolate, and the plaintiff said she prefers black and milk.
Wrong
There is a differance. and if my answering colleagues specialized in chocolate, it can
Chocolate determained names are the percentage of cocoa in this
Dark chocolate is most often found in the range 62-71%, and has little or no added sweetener.
Bittersweet is approximately 60-45% of the mark, and the sweetener, good for cooking because most of cooked sugar, so that makes the chocolate sweetness without being too sweet.
milk chocolate is about 43%. It is best to eat, he sweeteners and milk was added to make it more acceptable and attractive
White chocolate is not even chocolate at all. It is milk solids and cocoa oil pressed bar-shaped. It is absolutely disgusting in my opinion.
And more often than not, the darker the chocolate, the more it will cost. but this is not always the case. There is a big different in the types of chocolate.
