Can you substitute butter for shortening a Peanut Blossoms recipe? I am Peanut Blossom Cookies (aka Brown-Eyed Susans.) They are witnesses to the Hershey's kiss in the middle. Is Substitute for kosher salted butter instead of shortening and omit salt 1 / 2 c. Tea recipe request?
1) Do not use salted butter for baking whole. Cooking is chemistry applied and you must be able to control the exact amount of any ingredient to obtain the desired result.
2) while shortening and butter often perform the same task in baking, there is a huge difference in the results. baked biscuits with butter tend to be flat and crisp. baked cookies using shortening tend to be soft and puffy. Peanut Blossom cookies to use shortening - as a last result, you may be able to replace the vegetable oil.
3) Check recipes.com. they have a page for substitutions, and can probably point you in the right direction.

Of course, I replace butter for the shortening in many recipes for cookies and have never had a problem!
It should not affect the recipe instead of butter. They are both solid at room temperature contain both about the same amount of air. You may still want to add about 1 / 4 c. teaspoon salt (or at least a few pinches). Ideally, I suggest you sweet cream butter and add the total amount of salt, but if you have salted butter on hand, it should be OK.
