After 16 years of the bank, three companies, caring for two children and six horses, my husband and I decided the life we had created was not for us. Despite spent 17 years together and loving every minute of every other company, Marcus and I, like many others, felt like prisoners of stress. We spend our free time studying various holistic modalities, eager to find a way to cope with our continual stresses without having to give up our careers and lifestyles. However, we could not seem completely eliminate our lives - of course, until one event changed our lives and encouraged us to undertake a journey that would rid the mold and British-optimum seek health and serenity.

The straw that broke the camel's back, finally back took place on cold, wet Monday morning. I received a phone call informing me that the dear friend and business associate who was 41 years old died of a heart attack. Our friend was a couple of years younger than me, a typical banker - work hard and always stressed. He died Sunday morning in bed with his set of seven year old son beside him.

After the death of our friend, my husband Marcus and I have spent so much time to reflect on our lives and how we were allowed to dominate the stress of our lives. Finally, I asked Marcus, "If we were free to make the right choice where would we live?" His answer was the South Pacific! After long discussions we decided to start to unravel our lives. The challenge of this all encompassing. It took about a year and a half, a lot of theater and a lot of grief to let go of the life we had built and create a new one from scratch.

In August 2005, finally free of our furniture, we were ready to begin our adventure. Despite not having the slightest idea of what we would do for the rest of our lives - when you have a burning desire, crazy or fancy does not play a role in the decision process. No matter what we knew we had to go. The general consensus about us abandon everything we had worked so hard to create is that we were either brave or stupid. However, with nine suitcases, two children, ages 5 and 12, we start in the blue.

We planned our route through the United States as it has been the dream of our children to see Disney World. But Los Angeles was shocking for them and we spent most of our time explaining to our children why people beg in the streets and why people were so obese.

Next Western Samoa, a delightful place steeped in history. Despite the absence of suspicion of the pleasures of the West, people were happy, had a great esteem and looked well and vital. We got to know their culture and reveled in their simple lives, yet fulfilled. It amazed us how life might be easier when the "powerful of the modern world" has been ignored. We treasure our time in Western Samoa as it was our first taste of freedom from the confines of modern civilization.

Our next stop was Tonga, an archipelago of 171 points tropical horizon. Let's just say we certainly were not ready for culture shock. The people of Tonga are amazing and really beautiful, but they know little of the outside world and, frankly, have no real interest in it. They live a simple life in a place completely isolated from the trappings "of Western society.

After some time, however, we realized that we could not home school our children. We originally thought we could manage the education of our children, but as it turned out, we were not meant to be teachers. We do not want to become selfish in our quest for peace and quiet, we had to make yet another big decision and find a new place to go where our children can be educated.

As we examined our options, we felt completely alo.
