Sometimes the best recipes are new ones that we learn from the past. Such is the case with these delicious brownies with old-fashioned buttermilk chocolate icing butter old recipe from my collection. Make these for a family treat, take them for family gatherings, office pitch-ins, church potlucks, where you share, you're sure to get rave reviews. Make them for your special someone just to let them know how much you care!



This recipe comes from a cookbook of old church with a group of Midwestern state.



Stick shock 1
1 cup water
1 / 4 cup cocoa
1 / 2 cup canola oil
2 cups all purpose flour
2 cups sugar
1 / 2 c. salt
Soda 1 c. Tea
1 tsp teaspoon vanilla
1 / 2 cup buttermilk
2 Eggs



Preheat oven to 400 degrees.



In a small heavy saucepan, mix the shock, water, cocoa and oil. Bring to a boil, stirring until melted and shock is the ingredients are mixed. Remove from heat and set aside. In a large bowl, stir together flour, sugar, salt and soda. Pour the cooked mixture to the flour mixture and stir to mix well. Stir in vanilla, milk and eggs. Stir until the mixture is smooth. Pour into a baking pan 17 x 11 inch. Bake at 400 degrees for 15-20 minutes until cooked through. Frost with the following Chocolate Buttermilk Frosting.



BUTTERMILK chocolate frosting



Stick shock 1
1 / 2 cup cocoa
1 / 3 cup buttermilk
1 pound powdered sugar
1 cup chopped pecans
1 tsp teaspoon vanilla



In a small saucepan, bring the shock, cocoa and buttermilk to boil. Remove from heat and stir in powdered sugar, vanilla and nuts. Pour over brownies while still hot.
