Here's an example:
Biscuit Dog Treats Cheese
dog homemade treats are fun to make and healthier than most store-bought versions.
INGREDIENTS
1 cup rolled oats (like Quaker)
1 / 3 cup margarine
1 cup boiling water
3 / 4 cup cornmeal
1 tablespoon sugar soup
2 chicken breasts or beef broth flavored teaspoons instant
1 / 2 cup milk
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 egg beaten
2-3 cups whole wheat flour.

INSTRUCTIONS
Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
Grease a cookie sheet.

In a large bowl, combine oats, margarine and boiling water and let stand 10 minutes. Stir in cornmeal, sugar, broth, milk, cheese and eggs and mix well. Spoon flour lightly into measuring cup; stabilize. Add flour 1 cup at a time, mixing well after each addition to form a stiff dough.

On a floured surface, knead the remaining flour until dough is smooth and no longer sticky, 3 to 4 minutes. Roll or pat dough to 1 / 2 inch thick, cut with cookie cutter shaped bone. Place 1 inch gap on greased cookie sheets. Bake at 325 degrees for 35-45 minutes, until golden brown. Cool completely. Store loosely covered. Makes 3 1 / 2 dozen large dog biscuits or 8 dozen cookies for small dogs.

Dog Treats Storage
In general, you should store dog treats the same way you homemade cookies to people. That said, there are two main variables that determine storage time - the amount and type of fat in the recipe and your local climate. If your recipe uses fats such as butter, or pieces of meat or juice, then it will be more prone to rancidity than a recipe that uses vegetable oil or shortening. Your treats may mold or spoil much faster in humid or hot climates.

garlic powder is fine, just use a teaspoon at most. parsley, mint, basil, thyme and oregano are also very good, again a bit so as not to disturb the stomach of dogs. I make cookies with my own dog ... parsley and garlic I use in mine and my two dogs love them.

I do not think you should give the dogs spices first.

Here is a recipe I use:

Cheese & GARLIC DOG TREATS

1 1 / 2 tsp whole wheat flour
1 1 / 4 c. shredded cheddar cheese
1 / 4 lb. butter corn oil
1 clove garlic, crushed
Pinch of salt

Grate cheese and let stand until it reaches room temperature. The cream cheese with the softened butter, garlic, salt and flour. Add enough milk to form a ball. Refrigerate for half hour. Roll on a floured board. Cut the pastry and bake at 375 degrees for 15 minutes or until lightly brown and firm. Makes 2 to 3 dozen, depending on size.
