Essential oils: Essential oils How to work? Essential oils enter the body in two main ways. Most often, they enter through the nose and our sense of smell odors identifies and sends messages to the brain through the olfactory glands. Here begins the therapeutic process. Effects such as relaxation or refreshment, boost memory or provide a sense of relief or well-being, may differ from one person to another. Some oils such as geranium, are called "adaptogen" and may have different effects on the same people at different times.

All essential oils have different characteristics because they are composed of different compounds. Read about oil and decide on two or three that will be suitable for the needs you have.
Try to use oils with different "notes" associated with their odors. There are top, middle and base notes. A note head is usually a citrus oil which has a bright aroma moment shots when you feel the mixture. A base note is usually a wood-based oil such as sandalwood oil has a pleasant smell and a lot more subtle that takes time to enter the mix.

Some essential oils are "abortifacients" and should not be used in aromatherapy. Some oils, even some of the most popular ones such as Rose and Lavender are "emmenogogues" (can regulate menstrual flow) and therefore should not be used during pregnancy or at least in the first quarter.
There are other oils that can be cons-listed with epilepsy, high blood pressure etc. Remember, never take essential oils orally, do not rub your eyes with oily fingers and keep well away from children or those not able to read the instructions.
