How do I measure ingredients for cooking without scales? Please help urgently birthday girls!? Hello, my daughters birthday and she wants the fairy cakes that would be very simple if we wernt living in Portugal working on my contract and husbands have no scales!
I usually use 125g of flour, butter and powdered sugar and 2 eggs (plus a little milk)
Can anyone please help me to convert, either that, or give me a different recipe please. I'm from the UK and if you are a typical response of the United States, I have no idea what is a cup???
Thank you very much!
Well, I'm American and I try to always be nice - here is my answer:
A book of flour is about 3 1 / 2 cups and one pound equals 455 grams. Thus, 455 divided by 3 1 / 2 = 130 grams per cup. Environ.
Here's more:
All-purpose flour and icing sugar
U.S. Cups Grams
1 / 8 cup 15 grams
1 / 4 cup 30 grams
1 / 3 cup 40 grams
3 / 8 cup 45 grams
1 / 2 cup 60 grams
5 / 8 cup 70 grams
2 / 3 cup 75 grams
3 / 4 cup 85 g
7 / 8 cup 100 grams
1 cup 110 grams
This is a "Continental cuisine" Cookbook I often use.
125g of flour is usually equal to 1 cup (8 oz). Even if weight is a better way of cooking, most American recipes are reflected in the volume measures for the facility.
a cup of flour is about 110 grams.
Do you mean convert to Oz? I am not sure what you need to convert, esp. If you are not using cups ... But anyway, we OUCE is equal to 28.35 g. It looks like a small cake recipe ...
It should be easy to get the weight of butter about right, just estimate the weight goes by the overall weight of the butter in the pack (eg, half a pack of 250g). Then you can improvise a series of scales, for example with a ruler, a string and some plastic bags. adjust the quantities of sugar and flour until they weigh the same as butter and the other. Good luck!
I know probably a little late, but it is a site that has a very precise weight / conversion program size:

Just click "conversions" in the menu bar at the top and the rest is obvious.
